Protecting Your Family Is Simple: Schedule a Radon Test Today

Did you know radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States? Considering how much time Americans have spent inside of their homes over the past year, this statistic is particularly alarming. If you are buying or selling your home or have never had your home tested for radon, contact Burgess Inspections, Inc.. Our radon assessments are fast, affordable, and accurate – and they just might save your life.

What Is Radon?

Radon is an odorless, colorless, tasteless gas located in the soil. The release of radon from the soil is part of a natural process and is not harmful in low concentrations. The problem with radon, however, occurs when it leaches into homes through cracks and contaminated well water. In poorly ventilated areas such as basements, radon can accumulate and pose an undetectable health risk to those who inhale it.

Does My Home Have a Radon Problem?

Because radon is imperceptible to the human eye and nose, the only way to detect it is through testing. In fact, the EPA and the Surgeon General recommend testing all homes below the third floor for the presence of radon. The danger in this gas is that it is literally a silent killer. The longer a person is unknowingly exposed to radon, the greater their risk of experiencing serious side effects.

Radon Testing

The best way to protect yourself and your loved ones is to schedule a professional radon test with Burgess. Radon testing is simple: a radon technician will come to your home or business and set up a radon detection system. The detector will collect air samples over the next several days. Then, we will read your results and make recommendations for remediation as necessary. The EPA recommends fixing the home if radon levels are at 4.0 picocuries per liter (pCi/L) or higher.
